The First Five: A Starter Hijab Wardrobe That Goes With Everything

Assalamu alaikum. If you are new to hijab, the hardest part is rarely the wrapping. It is the shopping. Dozens of fabrics, hundreds of shades — and the quiet fear of buying ten beautiful hijabs that somehow go with nothing you own.

Here is the calmer way to start: five hijabs, chosen by the job each one does. Cover the five jobs, and every outfit in your wardrobe already has its match.

Why five works

A capsule is not about owning less for its own sake. It is about removing the daily decision. Look at what you actually wear, and your outfits fall into a few honest buckets: the everyday ones, the dressed-up ones, the plain ones that need interest, the bright ones that need grounding, and the light ones that need softness.

Five hijabs, one per bucket. That is the whole system. Everything after these five is a pleasure, not a necessity.

Buying by role also protects you from the most common starter mistake: three hijabs in nearly the same shade, and nothing for the days none of them suit. Roles first, shades second — the drawer stays honest.

The five

1. The everyday jersey — in a warm neutral. This is the one you will reach for most, so it should be the easiest to wear. Our Premium Jersey is buttery-soft and non-slip — the fabric that holds itself while you are still learning. Choose a warm neutral your wardrobe already loves — the oatmeal, latte and cocoa family goes with almost everything (you will find shades like Oatmeal and Latte in the collection). If your clothes run cool — greys, blues, black — choose a cool neutral instead. Match the hijab to your wardrobe, not to the photograph.

2. The georgette — for polish. Some days ask for more than everyday: work, a dinner, a photograph you will keep. Premium Georgette drapes with a finish jersey does not try to imitate. It is slightly slippery, so wear it over an underscarf and it behaves — and it is machine-washable, so the dressed-up one is not the delicate one. A soft shade like wheat or cashew polishes an outfit without competing with it.

3. The print — for interest. Every wardrobe has plain tops and simple dresses waiting for something to happen. A printed hijab is what happens. Our Printed Era hijabs are rayon — light, with prints that carry a whole outfit (Bliss is one of the current prints). Choose a print whose colors borrow from your own closet: if two or three of its shades already live in your wardrobe, it will never feel like a stranger.

4. The dark anchor — black, or your deepest shade. When the outfit is bright, patterned, or formal, the dark hijab settles it. Black is the classic anchor — we carry it in both Premium Jersey and Premium Georgette — but if you live in navy or deep brown, your anchor should be that instead. The anchor is whichever dark shade ends the argument in your mirror.

5. The light one — ivory or white. Light outfits, bright days, and summer dressing ask for a light hijab to complete them. Ivory softens where pure white can feel stark — our Ivory in Premium Jersey is the gentle version of this pick. If your wardrobe is full of whites and pastels, this one will earn its place faster than you expect.

The two base pieces

The five only work with the right base underneath them. Two pieces, bought once:

  • A tie-back cotton underscarf. Our Tie-Back Underscarves are regular cotton — the grip under slippery fabrics, the clean hairline under all of them. Start with one in a shade close to your skin or your most-worn hijab. If you are still deciding which underscarf type suits you, Underscarves, Explained walks through the options.
  • A set of magnets. Hijab magnets hold the fabric without pins, holes, or snags — under the chin for georgette days, wherever a drape needs setting. They are also step four of the fix in How to Stop Your Hijab From Slipping, if slipping is your struggle.

How the five cover a week

Errands and ordinary workdays: the jersey. A dressed-up Friday: the georgette. A plain black dress that needs life: the print. A bright top that needs settling: the dark anchor. A light, summery outfit: the ivory. Five mornings, five answers — no drawer of almost-right shades.

When you are ready to browse, our New Hijabi edit gathers the starter pieces in one place, and the Best Sellers collection shows what the rest of the #CMFam reaches for. Add a second jersey in another neutral when the first one is in the wash more than on your head — that is how you will know this wardrobe is working.

Every order from Concealed Muslimah comes with a free gift, and US shipping is free over $60 — a starter five, plus the base pieces, travels free.

With love,
Your #CMFam
